Anyone here know a good over the counter hair dye to achieve brown colored hair?

I've been wanting to dye my hair a natural looking brown, but if i go for a darker brown it always ends up looking too black, and when i've tried medium to light browns, they end up with a somewhat orangey hue. My hair right now is medium brown, but it's on the orange side. Is there a brand of hair dye out there that gives a natural brown shade?

I had the same problem with mine. It's because you have a lot of natural red pigment in your own hair, and this is what turns orange when you use the lighter shades.

You could try mixing your own brown shade by mxing together two different colours (like a dark auburn and a medium brown). You would want to mix two colours that you want to end up with. (Maybe a light honey brown with a medium brown?) Customize! Or pay a beautician to do it for you. It will take some experimentation though.

colorsilk or balam color. i know those are the cheap hair dyes. but they work. the color is beautiful and they last.... i have med. brown hair and whenever i get a brown hair dye it turns my hair dark dark brown almost black.. or if i try a redish brown it turns real red or an orangish color. for colorsilk= try a med. brown with little red results. i believe its called med.netrual brown. for balam color= try med. ash brown. this is what iam using now. it will be a med. brown that glows and looks real. iam trying to grow out my natural color which is med. brown and it looks great. i hope i helped.

NONE. They have high ammonia contents and are damaging on the hair. Also, they contain metallic dyes which are cheap hard to remove dyes that are also damaging. Also, most over-the-counter hair colours use a 20Volume developer when most cases you need 10Volume. Using a 20Volume developer will continue to give you that orangey ugly shade...no matter what. If you must colour your hair yourself, go to a beauty supply store and purchase proffesional products. The people who work there will be able to direct you.

And trust me....I'm a cosmetologist. ;-)

try using loreal mega browns, they are great and don't cost more than $3.00, it's a small cylinder shape bottle, u have to purchase the developer seperately.
