Actually, if you have left over carpet, you can have it cut out and replaced - problem is matching from normal wear and discoloring.
Sounds like you will need to replace it all, that way, you can get rid of the blood stains as well - make sure she's lying down first - otherwise you may need to repaint the walls as well. Very messy. Maybe take her skydiving?

There are very few things that will successfully remove hair dye and not remove the colour of the carpet. First, try wiping the spot with hydrogen peroxide which yo can get in any drug store.
If it is a carpet as opposed to a rug, you can indeed do replacement by cutting out that piece and replacing it.
If it is a shag carpet, depending on the visibility of the spot, you could use a blade or scissors and trim off the dyed pieces. Failing that, you final option would be to place a rug or plant or piece of furniture over the spot. If Murphy's law has any place in this equation, it will be a spot in the open and my best recommendations would be to trim off the bits or use the rug.
Whatever you do though, do not kill your wife, it was an accident but one that should not have happened, tell her to stand in the tub the next time she is dying her hair, or better yet, go to the hairdresser.

You could patch the carpet if you have any remanents. Just cut the stained part out with a carpet cutter, and replace with a new piece. It's usually not too noticable.
You could also try oxy clean- this does wonders for stains.
Hairspray, vinegar, joy dish detergent, color-safe bleach, can all reduce dye stains too.
If you don't want to patch the carpet, I would try some of these remedies to lift the stain.

Powdered Tide with bleach. I am not joking. I once went to the salon and the hairdresser realized she used the wrong color in my hair. It came out deep red. She had me use Tide with bleach twice and it took out the dye. It did not damage my hair to my knowledge and actually left it very soft. Of course I washed the heck out of my head and scalp after wards. Mix up a cup of Tide with enough water to make a paste. Apply to a small area and let it set for about 30 minutes. Scrub it up and use a shop vac or shampooer to suck it up. If this works then apply to the larger area. This may take you several times to get it up but don't scrub so hard that you ruin the nap. Please let your wife live. She is doing this to make you want her more. Tell her she looks sexy and I bet she tries harder to make sure she is more careful next time. Just in case, buy a cheap peace of rug with a rubber backing and ask her to use it when she does this again.
