Is it safe to dye your hair when you're pregnant?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have been so down with morning sickness etc I thought I'd get my hair done to cheer myself up. Its long and dark brown so I thought I'd get it trimmed and have a tint put on it or some lighter streaks through it. But I'm worried that the chemicals in the hair dye will harm my baby.

no don't do it! come on mom-to-be, you should start using your head, which sounds like you have some good instincts b/c you hesitated before dying your hair..just remember, while you're pregnant / breast feeding, natural is the only way to go..if it sounds like something is full of chemicals, don't go near it! i.e. mcdonald's..lol

Everything I have read says NOT to dye your hair when you're pregnant. Best to wait a few months, then go for it. You can still get a great haircut and style to cheer yourself up...this will help with your self-esteem but won't worry you about unnecessary chemicals and your baby's well-being.

I was told it was safe but then i was told it wasnt and in the end I didnt take the risk but apart from that I dye my hair all the time and a dye I had previously used and had no ill effects from caused me to be rushed to hospital as I had become allergic to the ingredients! I had to be given all sorts of potions. My throat closed up my face swelled and my skin turned bright pink, not the prettest of looks and it lasted over a week. So my point is even if it was safe for your baby its not worth the risk. ps after my daughter was born a couple of years ago my sister cut my hair from very long to very short and very badly. I had just had a c section and was in no position to run after her and kill her for it so if you decide to get your hair done after your baby is born get it done properly.

Im a hairdresser you said you where just having lighter streaks through your hair so it wont even come in to contact with your scalp anyway if you've got a good stylist, The only reason some stylists may refuse is due to the fact that your hair can be harder to lift, but i have never experienced any difference.

To be safe you should ask your doctor. I have many friends who have done it and there baby's are fine. However the fumes is the main concern... To be honest with you I would wait until after you have the baby to do it, your hair grows so fast when you are pregnant that it really wont do you any Good to do it now. you will have to keep going back to touch upi your roots. NOT WORTH IT... instead of getting your hair done go get a pedicure and a message!!!!! It will feel much better and you will be very relax which willbe good for your baby also!!!
