Box hair dye.?

I dye my hair with stuff from a box (usually Revlon Colorsilk). Not too often, maybe every few months. This works just fine for me, but someone recently told me that hair dye from a box is terrible for your hair. They told me to go to a local beauty store and buy stuff from them. Is this true, because I have long hair and I would prefer it didn't break off or anything.

I went to cosmetology school and they ingrain that in to your psyche. Have you had good results from what you are using? Heck, last I knew, Clairol, was owned by Redken. They mostly all use the same developer whether you buy it in the store or at a beauty supply store. You will get a better selection at a supply store but you will have to figure out their color chart. Most supply stores require you to be licensed to buy those products anyway. I don't buy into much of any of this hype that 'professional' is better. That is what they want you to believe so their products will sell!

you aren't dying your hair often enough to have to worry aobut it.

Box hair dye.?

actually the what u call "box" hair dye is milder than the stuff u buy from the beauty supply store people just need to know what they are doing

Box hair dye.?

i've never had a problem, however i use semi-permanent color. it always makes my hair feel better!

I have really long hair that I have been dying since I was 17 (8yrs) every few months and I have no problems like my hair breaking or anything and I use the stuff from a box from a store.

Your friend is wrong. As long as you use the ammonia free kinds of boxed hair dye you'll be fine. Beauty stores often sell the same exact dyes and developers as sold in the boxes.

I have dark hair and have been colouring it for over ten years (wow that makes me feel old!) I have always used a box colourant and without sounding big headed my hair is in lovely condition. Look for the brands that come with a good conditioner and use a shampoo for coloured hair these keep it really shiny. Also a good leave in conditioner used once a week will do wonders for your hair.

about the same but use a semi-permanent dye so if you hate it you can remove it. If you get a bad color go immediately to the store and buy Rit dye remover, mix as directed and use it on your hair. It will removed the semi perm color completely.

No joke this really works.

You have some good answers here. I gave you guys good ratings!

I was a master colorist for 7 years. I have colored my own hair with stuff from Sally Bty Supply that was crap. If what you are using works, don't go changing, unless you plan to have a stylist do it consistenyly from some point forward.
